January 23, 2012

Good Day PARTY ROCKERS Parents: I’m hoping that this letter finds you all well. I’m also hoping that you are reading the bottom portion of the Liberation Worksheet weekly. There is always very important information written on it.

I will no longer be facilitating Tutoring after tomorrow January 24, 2012.  However tutoring will still be available for your child on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Mama Mona Leak from 3:30 to 4:30.  Tutoring is an alternate option for after care nor is it for enrichment, tutoring is for students that need additional help and that are struggling with specific concepts, especially concepts on the benchmark.  If your child is going to attend you may send them with an additional healthy snack.

Please make sure you send your child with lunch everyday.

If your child takes medicine please give it to them prior to coming to school, or send it to the nurse, along with a note to have it administered. Students are not allowed to medicate themselves while in school.

Please keep in mind late/absence notes are to be given to the student when they return to school after being late or absent.  If you do not give a note for lateness or absence your child has an unexcused lateness or absence on their record. Changes will not be made after the report card period in which the lateness or absence occurred in. Please be prompt and have accurate dates on the notes.

All students must wear their full uniform daily. Ties (and belts for gentleman) need to be worn everyday. If your child wears boots any other color than black or Navy blue to school, please send shoes with them to change into. For the ladies if you where pants under your jumper please be advised that the pants must be removed immediately upon arriving to school. Which means the child must be wearing navy blue tights, pantyhose, stockings, or socks under the pants. PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD IN APPROPRIATE OUTERWEAR FOR THE WEATHER. THEY HAVE MORNING CIRCLE, RECESS, AND CLOSING CIRCLE OUTDOORS. Quite a few of them wait at the bus stop for long periods of time as well.

Please make sure you occasionally review and go over the classroom management plan with your child, also ask or  inquire about their day.  Constant Disruptions, because of negative behavior will result in your child receiving a write up and then they will be reported to the Dean (Baba Afrika).

Please make sure you are initialing each and every night and signing the Liberation Work sheet.  Also please check school bags and folders for important information everyday. When testing folders are sent home, please return it with your signature on all test and quizzes on the following day.

PLEASE TAKE TIME TO LOOK AT OUR WEBPAGE WEEKLY. THERE IS ALWAYS NEW INFORMATION ON IT AND PICS OF YOUR CHILD AT WORK AND PLAY ARE ADDED AS WELL. www.kheperacharterschool.org, classrooms, 3rd grade Sis Dawnmarie, Party Rockers.

Shero/Hero Presentation

Yflyy nation

1/6/2012

African/African American Shero/Hero Presentation

This presentation will be fun.  The students must present atleast 20 facts about the person they choose as their Shero or Hero.  These facts must be placed on 3x5 cards.  The students will bring in items or make items to give hints of who it is that they are presenting.  It does not have to be someone famous. We will play the game (Who am I?).  The other students in the classroom will have to figure out who the shero or hero is.  The students are encouraged to dressup like their shero or hero, or bring in props to assist with the description, as well, to make the assignment more creative.

Please encourage your child to choose someone other than Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, or Frederick Douglass, etc. The least common Shero/Hero’s are the ones they should choose. This will make the game more fun.

Presentation is due on February 8, 2012.

Kwanzaa Song!!!

Loretta Claiborne Hollywood PARTY ROCKERS

Kwanzaa Song Written By Sis Dawnmarie

What you want to Celebrate?  Kwanzaa!
What you wanna learn about? Kwanzaa!
What you wanna sing about? Kwanzaa!
Shout it...K-W-A-N-Z-A-A, again K-W-A-N-Z-A-A!

Sharing our past with songs we sing
About women and men, warriors and kings.
We'll talk about faith, hard work and pride
With our family and friends standing by our side.

What you want to Celebrate? Kwanzaa!
What you wanna learn about? Kwanzaa!
What you wanna sing about? Kwanzaa!
Shout it...K-W-A-N-Z-A-A, again K-W-A-N-Z-A-A!

It’s a special week for me and you. We've come so far, but there's much to do.
We'll pass the Unity Cup, dance through the night. As the candles burn down, our future burns bright.
Remembering our people and our history.  Can’t you see this holiday’s special to me?

What you want to Celebrate? Kwanzaa!
What you wanna learn about? Kwanzaa!
What you wanna sing about? Kwanzaa!
Shout it...K-W-A-N-Z-A-A, again K-W-A-N-Z-A-A!

Kwanzaa’s in our heart and minds everyday. So let’s all Celebrate Kwanzaa today!

K-w-a-n-z-a-a!  again K-w-a-n-z-a-a!
Kwanzaa!  Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa! Kwanzaa!

K-w-a-n-z-a-a! K-w-a-n-z-a-a!

Science Project Habitat/Rock Formation

Loretta Claiborne Hollywood P.A.R.T.Y. R.O.C.K.E.R.S. 3B/104

Science Project Template and Rubric 12/12/2011

If the students choose to do a Habitat they may use the Science textbook page B4 (What are Ecosystems?) They may choose an Animal (land or water) or an Insect for their Habitat.  They can and will have to use information from another source like a book, internet, encyclopedias, magazines, or some other source to assist with this project.

If the students choose to do a Rock formation, or Volcano they can use the textbook page C32 (Landforms). They may also use the same resource options mentioned earlier.  Lastly in the Reading Textbook (On Your Mark) there is additional information.

Students may use a shoe box, box top, plastic bin, etc to display their project.  If they are just going to describe something they may use a Tri-fold or Poster Board.  This is a free interpretation/expression project which means students will be graded on creativity and effort.  This project is to be prepared and created by the student alone.  Parents please allow your child to do their own project, because when they present they need to do so in confidence and understanding.  If not this will result in a lower grade.  A paper or index cards must accompany this project with all the relevant information describing what is displayed.  The more information the better.  Please practice, practice, practice.  There was a lot of great work, ideas, and creativity displayed during the State Presentations please put the same effort into this project as well.  Due on January 11 , 2012. God Bless.

10points, with extra effort =A+    8-9 points = A    6-7 points  = B     3-5 points  = C    1-2 points = D    0 points = F

State Presentations
Congratulations Parents and Students on working diligently on your State Presentations. They all look great and well done. I appreciate your hard work and am very proud of the students, cause everyone turned in a project and on time. Good Job, Good Job and Thank you again!
